Amazing day at the Avon County Championships.
North Somerset Athletic Club advanced considerably from not only performing well at the Avon League but now securing 62 medal positions at the county championships held at Yate on Saturday 8th May. This staggering performance for a relatively new club has firmly stamped North Somerset Athletic Club on the map.
The successes were seen across the board but in particular in the under 13 and under 15 categories where the club dominated.
There were winners across the board no more so than in the under 13 girls who led the way with triple gold winner, Sophie Thomas in the 100m, 200 m and High jump and double champions Angharad Flower in the 1500m and 800m and Adoro'a Chigbo in the 70m hurdles and Long Jump.
They were joined on the podium by Chloe Buck who secured gold in the Discus and two silvers in the 800m and long jump. There were two seconds for Briony Cox in the Discuss and shot putt and two Bronze awards for Pippa Reilly in the 200m and long jump.
There were also third places for Ellie parker, Lauren Meredith Ellie Bray and Sarah Page in the 1500m, 70m hurdles, discuss and shot putt respectively.
In the under 15 girls there was no let up with Katie Grinyer taking a gold and silver in the 200m and 800m. Anicia Skeates also taking gold and silver in the high jump and 75m hurdles, followed in third place by Hannah Godfrey.
In the javelin first and second went to North Somerset with Cecelia Bradley and Emily Knox-Clifton. Rosie Parsons off the back of a good cross country season and Sports-Hall success also took two medals with a second and third in the 200m close behind Katie Grinyer and in the long jump.
If that wasn't enough in the under 13 boys there were one, two, threes in the 800m, the high jump and discuss. In the 800m it was Karl Egan followed by Luke Osgood then josh Gentry. In the high jump it was Liam Watson, followed by Declan Waters and Karl Egan and in the discuss Lewis cheetham followed by Liam Watson and Josh Gentry.
David Page had a stunning day with the throws winning all three events discuss, shot putt and hammer. There were first and second places in the long jump with Sam Aizlewood and Ryan Fowler. He then continued his work by winning the 100 and 200m followed closely by Declan waters and Aiden Paul in the 100m and Aiden in the 200m. James Lawrence showed his potential with two comfortable golds in the 100 and 200 meters. William Binnington took a creditable third in the 1500m.
Kody Mortimer branched out from his normal endurance events with two golds in the 400m hurdles, high jump and silver in the long jump. Josh Bray also achieved multiple successes with a first second and a third in the triple jump, 400m and 800m respectively. In the same 800m Callum Hannay took silver.
In the under 17 men there was no let up with the fast improving Jake Fisher taking three golds in the 400m, 400m hurdles and long jump.
Other emerging athletes Ashley Pierson and Cameron Coetzee came second and third respectively in the 100 and 1500meters. Jordan Allen added to the tally with a bronze in the shot putt.
There were many other athletes that competed and gave creditable performances and this depth in talent bodes well for the future of the club and athletics in the county. Well done to everyone. What a day!!
