19/04/2010 : South West League Meeting 1 Plymouth.April 2010

New Adventures in Devon.

We started our venture into the unknown at the unearthly time of 7.30am to travel to Plymouth for the clubs first venture into the South West League.

It was a beautiful day and perfect conditions for track and field. We thought we may be a bit light on athletes at our first match principally due to the Avon sportshall finals where we were naturally heavily represented and due to the distance. Such is the clubs growing strength in depth that we more than matched our opponents. We were well beaten it has to be said into second place on the day by the home team Armada, which was only to be expected. However second place overall was a superb effort by everyone and we had an enjoyable good natured battle with Mendip throughout the event only winning through to second during the relays.

There were many memorable moments during the day including Bens quiz on route, no the marathon is not the longest Olympic event.

On the track there were many superb performances and thanks to all of the athletes who took part. The under 13 girls relay was a fine effort clearly showing the change over practise does work, nearly beating the boys who also won. The senior mens relay was also worth a mention for a number of reasons and who somehow beat Mendip. Ash Pierson also had a great day in a number of events and with a 23.0 in the 200m.
